Thibaut Courtois has no interest in being Cech’s understudy

Chelsea keeper, Thibaut Courtois, who is currently on loan at Atletico Madrid, has expressed his desire to stay on at with the Los Rojiblancos for another season and improve his trade after showing impressive form with the Copa del Rey winners.

Aside from the belief he has that the Blues are the team to be with in the coming years, he maintains he wants to start regularly. Talking to Yahoo News he said,”I know Chelsea are a fair club. The board are smart people and know I need to play. I like the Chelsea project with young players very much. In two or three years Chelsea will have a team to win everything."

However, the youngster also added, "I want to stay. I’d rather play in La Liga than be a substitute in the Premier League.”

He accepts the fact that Petr Cech is the undisputable No.1 at the Blues and that he needs to improve leaps and bounds to match the Czech international.

He also expressed his desire to be in good shape to make Belgium squad for the World Cup in Rio, ”There's a World Cup and I want to go. Here I will be able to play in the Champions League and there's no better place to play than here. At Atletico I have progressed a lot.”

Courtois was signed from Genk in 2011 but was immediately sent on loan to Atletico to give him exposure. In his seasons at the Vicente Calderon, he has made nearly a hundred appearances and in this season has conceded only 30 goals. He showed his keeping acumen in the Copa del Rey final, when he successfully kept the daunting Real Madrid attack at bay to help his team lift the Cup.
