The Sunrisers Hyderabad continued to defy logic by registering their 5th win of the season to go top of the Indian Premier League points table. A batting collapse by the Kings XI Punjab, which saw them lose 6 wickets for 27 runs towards the fag end of their innings cost them dearly as the visitors posted a well under par 123-9 in their 20 overs. The Sunrisers Hyderabad knocked over the runs with 7 balls to spare thanks to a patient 46 from 19 year old Hanuman Vihari and some belligerent hitting towards the end of the innings by Thisara Perera (23 from 11 balls).

The visiting Kings XI Punjab side won the toss and opted to make first use of the Hyderabad track. Mandeep Singh continued his poor run at the start of the innings making 10 before a top edge off an Ishant Sharma delivery was well caught by young Quinton de Kock.

Adam Gilchrist gave his side a rare decent start, making 26 from 25 balls before a mini collapse saw Punjab slide to 48-3 from 9 overs. With their score going nowhere in a hurry, Piyush Chawla was bumped up the order, and the leg spinner smashed 23 from 15 balls to give his side some impetus. David Hussey at the other end made a patient 22, but Chawla's demise with the score on 88 started the Punjab collapse, and the side never really recovered, failing to get a final push in the slog overs.

Amit Mishra and Ishant Sharma with matching figures of 2-29, complemented another leggie Karan Sharma, who took 2-19 from 3 overs to plot the Punjab collapse.

A second consecutive failure for young Quinton de Kock saw Hyderabad lose a wicket before a run was scored, but Vihari and Akshath Reddy (19) quelled the immediate danger by adding 48 at better than a run a ball for the second wicket.

Reddy was the first of Manpreet Gony's two victims, and Hyderabad's slow pace in the middle overs threatened to cost them the game, but TP (Thisara Perera) came out and smote three sixes to put the result beyond doubt.

The Kings XI Punjab will hope to bounce back in the comforts of home when they welcome the Pune Warriors in the late game on Sunday. The Sunrisers meanwhile have nearly a week off as the rest of the IPL teams play catch up, and will next be in action on Thursday, 25th April when they visit their southern neighbours the Chennai Super Kings.
