The Pune Warriors were handed an embarrassing 8 wicket defeat at home thanks to a fantastic team effort from the Kings XI Punjab. The Warriors won the toss, but that was probably the last thing that went right for them in the early kick-off on Sunday.

Opting to bat first, Pune posted a paltry 99-9 in their 20 overs with Abhishek Nayar top scoring with 25. The wickets were shared around by the Punjab bowlers with Azhar Mahmood and Praveen Kumar taking two each and each of the other bowlers also contributing in the wickets column. With the exception of Kumar, none of the other bowlers also conceded more than 5 an over, and that excellent bit of economy helped keep the Punjab batting task to a minimum.

Kings XI knocked off the runs in just 12.2 overs with Skipper Adam Gilchrist getting his team off to a rapid start, making 15 from 10 balls before Mandeep Singh (31 from 26 balls) and Manan Vohra (43 not out from 28 balls) took the side within sniffing distance of the target. Mandeep dragged a Rahul Sharma delivery back onto his stumps, before David Hussey came out and calmed any nerves that may have existed to take his side to a thumping win.

Kings XI are in action next against the Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday, 10th April, while Pune will get an opportunity to bounce back when they take on the Rajasthan Royals on Thursday.
