Premier League leaders Manchester United are looking to make a move for Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic as their leaky defence has concerned manager Sir Alex Ferguson greatly.
The Daily Mail has reported that United are considering a bid for the Bosnian either in the January transfer window or could delay it until the summer, which has raised concerns over the future of the two goalkeepers at the club presently - David de Gea and Anders Lindegaard.
Begovic joined the Potters in 2010 but could not displace No.1 Thomas Sorensen from first-team immediately. He shared starting duties with Sorensen last year, starting 22 of the club's 38 Premier League games, but an improvement in form has seen him play every minute in the league for his side so far this campaign. His outstanding form between the posts has seen him keep 7 clean sheets in 15 games conceding a meager 12 goals.
United currently have Lindegaard and De Gea in their squad and Sir Alex has rotated the two on a consistent basis as neither has failed to stake a strong claim to the goalkeeper position. De Gea joined the Red Devils from Atletico Madrid last season for a massive fee and has had an indifferent start to his United career. His finest moment came at Stamford Bridge as his one-hand save from Juan Mata's free-kick in injury time salvaged a point for his club, but questions have been asked over his aerial ability. However, the young Spaniard is still seen as one for the future, and will probably be retained by the club as he is still the first choice for the bigger games. The same though cannot be said for Lindegaard.
The newspaper also suggests United will face competition from Liverpool for the Bosnian's signature, though recent statements from new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers indicate that he is happy with his current options between the sticks.
