Ahead of the much anticipated Manchester derby this Sunday, Manchester United are looking to spice up the drama by targeting Dinamo Zagreb pair Alen Halilovic and Sime Vrsaljko, who are also on the radar of local rivals Manchester City.
According to reports in the Daily Mail, Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to make a move for the Croatian duo, who are considered top targets for City boss Roberto Mancini.
Reports suggest that United chief executive David Gill was in Croatia to monitor the availability of both players and could go in for a double swoop for the players to strengthen the squad. 16-year old midfielder Halilovic has been one of the most talked about players in Europe and has been often compared to Luka Modric. His sparkling displays for the club have attracted the attention of several clubs, including Manchester City and Spanish giants Real Madrid.
United are also monitoring Zagreb's 20-year old right-back Vrsaljko to provide some defensive cover. Rafael is the only recognized player in the squad in the right-back position and Vrsaljko is seen as the perfect addition to the team. A United move for the players would infuriate Manchester City for they have been long linked with the duo. The Red Devils are also scouting a third Dinamo Zagrebsensation, 18-year old midfielder Mateo Kovacic.
