Eden Hazard’s tease-fest in the summer seems to have caught on as Shakhtar Donetsk’s lanky midfielder Fernandinho has gone down the same path, telling Calciomercato: “I am closing a deal with an English club. I will play in Manchester in January.†The 27 year old Brazilian caught the attention during Shakhtar’s thrashings of Chelsea and with the Manchester derby a few days away it is only apt that United and City remain at loggerheads over the South American talent.
The English press are convinced that Arsenal are moving in for the kill in the Wilfried Zaha affair, with the Mirror claiming that Arsene Wenger has prepared an air-tight £7m offer for the highly-courted winger with a special clause allowing the 20 year old to leave the Emirates for Manchester City in a few years time (we're kidding).
French moneybags PSG might have all the money in the world but they are still being made to sift through an exhaustive list of left-back targets, with the Independent now adding the names Patrice Evra and Gael Clichy to the list. Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly keen on paying £5m for Evra, which would tempt Sir Alex Ferguson considering the defender’s age, provided he gets Leighton Baines from Everton.
Spicy Rumour
The Daily Mail reports that Manchester United have flown out Chief Executive David Gill to Croatia in preparation for this Sunday's Manchester derby in an attempt to steal a march on landing key transfer targets on local rivals Man City's shopping list. City were believed to be preparing an offering for Dinamo Zagreb duo 16-year old midfielder Alen Halilovic (touted to be the new Luka Modric) and 20-year old right back Sime Vrsaljko, however, United are ready to swoop in with a combined offer of £20 million for the talented twosome. AS Roma and Italian hard-man Daniele De Rossi has plenty of admirers in England, particularly at the current Premier League Champions whose manager has been like a kid outside a candy store window yearning to lay his hands on the star attraction. TalkSPORT feel that Roberto Mancini has a high chance of being ecstatic in January as the 29 year old reportedly met with Man City’s suits in London recently. Although, like most players seeking an exit route from the crumbling ship called the Serie A, PSG are high up the list of proposed destinations.
Everton’s cult-hero Marouane Fellaini could be strutting his chest control histrionics in St.Petersburg, if Zenit can back their lofty ambitions with an actual offer. The Russian giants already have the likes of Hulk and Alex Witsel in their line-up and a spokesman for the club told Liverpool Echo that the Belgian was on their list of January transfer targets, which set off groans at Goodison Park and Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea had been tracking the star for all these days.
Sounds Realistic
The Metro have made a conscious effort to remind all Arsenal fans of a player in their ranks called Andrei Arshavin, who has reportedly been frozen out by manager Arsene Wenger and has been told to find a new club in January or spend the next six months of his contract in the reserve side. But Arshavin, familiar with cold winters in Russia, seemingly has no problems with being frozen out and remains as composed as ever. (read more)
When Michael Laudrup speaks in glowing terms about a midfield you sit up and take note, that is exactly what the rest of the Premier League has been doing ever since Michu arrived in the summer. The Swansea boss has now put a not for sale board on top of the high-flying Spaniard, telling the Telegraph that his goal return proves that he worth a lot more to Swansea than the £15m Liverpool paid for Joe Allen.
Mohamed Diame's goals this season against Arsenal and Chelsea have certainly put him firmly in the limelight, and the Daily Mail reports that Newcastle United are keen on signing the Senegalese international after learning about his £3.5 million release clause. - new
Fulham are looking to strengthen their midfield in the winter with a £2 million move for 29-year old Ghana international Derek Boateng according to reports in the Daily Mail. The Cottagers were reportedly trying to bring the player on loan to the club in the summer transfer window, but a deadline day deal collapsed. The club have scouted the player sufficiently over the last few months, and are now confident about signing him permanently from Dnipro. - new
