Transfer madness begins as we are only weeks away from the January window and like the goose that always lays the golden egg, the English tabloids have blessed one and all with golden nuggets of rumours. Starting with the Mirror’s claim that Arsene Wenger could pull off one of the biggest coups in modern times by snapping up Frank Lampard from Chelsea. The 34 year old is unlikely to be awarded a new contract when his current deal expires at the end of the season, with the Metro claiming that Juventus are also interested in taking the three-time Premier League winner away from Stamford Bridge in January.
Staying with Rafael Benitez’s side, the Sunday People feel that Russian moneybags Anzhi are planning to suffer with a misfiring multi-million striker by swooping for Fernando Torres. Anzhi, currently managed by Guus Hiddink, are reportedly willing to match Chelsea’s valuation, which is likely to be around the £50m they splashed on him a few years ago.
Chelsea’s reluctance to offer Ashley Cole more than a year’s extension could lead to the self-styled ‘World’s Best left-back’ leaving Stamford Bridge in the coming months, but the Blues have seemingly had a plan all along as the Metro claims that they are after Southampton’s 17 year old prodigy Luke Shaw. The teenager has been tracked by the biggest clubs in England but Chelsea feel that their historical tradition of bringing through young players gives them the advantage. -new
What would a transfer gossip season be without a Wesley Senijder story? And, the story this time around stems from an amazing battle between the player and Inter Milan, who have demanded the Dutchman to take a pay-cut if he wants to get back into the starting eleven. The Mirror reports that Sneijder is planning on suing Inter for a breach of contract, which has forced Man United,  Man City, Tottenham and Liverpool to closely follow the affairs.
Arsenal’s crumbling season is getting worse by the day and the Metro reports that Arsene Wenger has earmarked PSV’s Kevin Strootman as a possible solution to their problems. Wenger has reportedly ordered for a scouting report on the Dutch midfield, who has long been a transfer target for Man United.
Spicy Rumour
Liverpool’s search for a striker to support Luis Suarez and be played out of position in a 4-3-3 has led Brendan Rodgers to the French shores where Lyon’s Bafetimbi Gomis was watched over by Liverpool scouts this weekend, so reports The Sun. -new
The David Beckham publicity-hogging, T-Shirt selling, occasional goal-scoring juggernaut has left the shores of Hollywood on a successful note after LA Galaxy beat Houston Dynamo in the MLS Cup final. The 37 year old is now looking for yet another move and the French Ligue 1 seems to be his favoured destination as Sky Sports report that Monaco retain a strong interest in his services. Meanwhile, the Mirror claims that Carlo Ancelotti’s PSG could sign the ex-Man United star instead, albeit for the rest of the season.
Harry Redknapp might hate the tag ‘wheeler-dealer’ but the QPR manager is only enhancing his reputation in that regard by making a move for Liverpool outcast Joe Cole. The Daily Star report that Redknapp wants Liverpool to pay up the rest of Cole’s contract and then sell him to QPR for free, to which the Reds have responded by sending the veteran manager a copy of the popular Pink Floyd tune High Hopes.
The Daily Star also claims that Liverpool will finally make a move for long-term target Shane Long. The West Brom striker has been in great form this season, which has unsurprisingly coincided with the Baggies making a great start to the season. £12m is what it would take to lure the Irishman away from Hawthorns, although Liverpool struggled to come up with £6m for Clint Dempsey in the summer.
Sounds Realistic
Man City’s search for European dominance might take ages to come to fruition but at least they are trying their best by plucking talented youngsters from Barcelona’s academy, with the Daily Star claiming that the Premier League champions are behind 18 year old Gerard Deulofeu, who was a target for Chelsea in the summer. The teenage sensation has an £8.1m release clause in his contract but whether the Catalans will let him go is another matter.
Newcastle United have suffered from the high expectations they set last year as they currently languish in 14th spot. That might have preying on Mathieu Debuchy’s mind as he declared to Sky Sports that the chances of him leaving Lille for the English North-East appear slim, although like all intelligent footballers controlled by their agents he went on to add that the world of football was uncertain.-new
No Way Jose Rumour
Manchester United and Liverpool, the two great pillars of English football down the years, haven’t been involved in a direct transfer deal since the early 60’s but Raheem Sterling could break that record if he decides to leave Anfield for Old Trafford, reports the Mirror. Man United are rumoured to be interested in the 18 year old replacing Nani, who could leave the 19-time Champions after falling down the pecking order. Sterling and his agents have been negotiating with Liverpool over a new bumper contract, something which has alerted the likes of Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea. Liverpool will not want to lose their best young player, let alone to their arch rivals down the M62.
