Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester United have reportedly been alerted to a release clause in Mario Gotze’s contract with Borussia Dortmund says the Daily Mail. The prodigal playmaker, who is a youth product of Borussia has been on the shortlist of several other top clubs around Europe including Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is well known to be a long term admirer of the young German international and reports suggest that he is willing to exercise the option of the reported £30 million release clause in January. Wenger could have money at his disposal in January owing to a new deal with sponsors Emirates a few days ago and Gotze could be the ideal addition to a squad that is in desperate need of some quality players.
Meanwhile, Premier League leaders Manchester United too are keeping tabs on the player and might want to challenge their rivals Arsenal to sign the 20 year old star. Gotze though is contracted with the German Champions Dortmund until 2016 and could be a difficult man to prise away. He is also in good form this season for Dortmund netting 7 times in 19 appearances in all competitions thus far.
Interestingly, both teams could well see the extra investment worth it for a player who is already blooded at the top level and could ditch their plans to sign another 20-year old prodigy Wilfried Zaha. Tthe young Englishman, while also an exceptional talent is also believed to be rather expensively priced, and is yet to play even a single game in the Premier League, making Gotze value for money option at this stage.
