If rumours in the Italian press are to be believed, Arsenal have renewed their interest in Argentine playmaker Ricardo Alvarez. After having missed out on the versatile midfielder to Inter Milan last summer, the Gunners are looking to swoop in for a possible deal in January.

Alvarez came away with decent returns last season in Italy scoring 3 goals and assisting 7 times in 21 appearances in all competitions for Inter but his lack of regular opportunities this season in which he has made just 2 appearances so far may force the Argentine to seek new avenues. Arsenal are in desperate need for someone who can challenge Santi Cazorla for an attacking midfield berth, with the Spaniard being forced to start game after game for the Gunners without getting any sort of rotation whatsoever. Aaron Ramsey and Tomas Rosicky both played in an advanced central role last season, but the young Welshman has failed to deliver on his promise thus far, while the veteran Czech continues to be an injury casualty.

The Gunners are currently 6th in the Premier League table with 20 points from 13 games and with the title race slipping away from their grasp every passing week, the heat is on Wenger to galvanize the team with new signings in the January window. While Alvarez could just be the tonic they need to kick-start their season, it won’t be easy for Wenger to snap up the midfielder. Internazionale are believed to have paid in excess of 10 million euros for Alvarez’s services last summer and would be looking to make as much money out of the transfer as possible.
