Fernando Alonso's hopes of overturning the odds to be crowned the youngest ever Triple World Champion in Formula One history (by a few months) received a small boost with the news that Pastor Maldonado has been demoted ten grid places in the Brazilian GP for missing a weighbridge call during qualifying.
The Ferrari driver will therefore move up a position into 7th place having struggled in qualifying which saw the Spanish Matador carry more downforce than his rivals, as a result of which he qualified his F2012 in a lowly 8th place on the grid. In addition to starting one place higher on the grid than he would have otherwise, the title chasing Ferrari ace now gets to start on the cleaner side of the track- although the difference between the clean and the dirty side of the track is not as pronounced as in Austin last week.
The odds however clearly favour Sebastian Vettel starting from 4th place on the grid to wrap up a third consecutive drivers' title on the bounce, barring disaster.
