Arsenal's young midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has joined Championship side Charlton Athletic on loan till January 1, 2013.
The 20 year old, who is a product of the Gunners' youth academy, is a very talented hard tackling defensive midfielder, just the kind of player Arsenal needs on their rolls, but needs to develop his distribution, positioning and on-field intelligence to be ready to step upto the Gunners' first team.
He has been very unlucky with injuries right through his career, with his latest setback coming when on loan at Wolves last season, for whom he had made just two appearances.
His recovery coincided with that of Jack Wilshere, and his appearances for the Gunners' first team as a result this season have been limited to the Capital One Cup.
With Mikel Arteta, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Francis Coquelin all ahead of him in the first team pecking order, this loan move could help him reboot his career.
The defensive midfielder is keen to force his way into Wenger's first team plans, and the loan deal could help him gain some valuable first team experience.
Meanwhile, Charlton lie 14th in the Championship after gaining promotion from League One last season, and could very well use a player of Frimpong's talent as they look to stay in the second tier of English football.
'We're really happy that he's coming in to join our squad, and we welcome him to the club,' said Charlton manager Chris Powell, 'We've had our eye on him for a while, and with the busy Christmas period to come, I felt it was right to make sure that we are covered in all areas. We hope that does very well for us in the red or black of Charlton.'
The opportunity at Charlton sounds tailormade for Frimpong, and while the chances of him returning to the Gunners' first team appear slim this season, he could go out on loan to a Premier League club once the January transfer window open.
