Arsenal might not be enjoying the best of times in the Premier League as they once again come to grips with the widening gap between themselves and the top three of Man United, Chelsea and Man City. The sole positive for the Gunners in an otherwise despondent last few weeks has been the sight of a fit Jack Wilshere and the young midfielder intends to repay the club by remaining put in North-London for a long time to come.

Arsene Wenger has struggled to keep his star names happy for a number of years, consistently losing his bets players year in year out. The long list of departures include Robin van Persie, Alex Song, Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy, Mathieu Flamini and Alex Hleb, but Wilshere has made it clear that he has no intention of following in their footsteps.

Speaking to the Daily Mail the 20 year old: “To have my family 20 minutes from the training ground and an hour from the stadium is perfect for me. Cesc wanted to go home. Home for me is Arsenal. Cesc wanted to go back to his family and friends. My family and friends are 20 minutes away. It’s perfect.”

He further spoke about his amazing journey from Arsenal’s Youth academy to the first-team, adding that he was still in his baby steps when compared to legends like Tony Adams: “I’ve played 39 games in the Premier League, which is nothing when you look at players like Tony Adams and how many appearances they made. That’s something I want to do.”

It must be frustrating for the player to see his team-mates depart every summer and there could be more in the near future as Theo Walcott’s future is still clouded in uncertainty. Ultimately it will be the club’s ability to challenge for league honours that will determine the future of the stars and Wilshere admits that Arsenal have been falling short in the title race, as attested by the 11 point gap between themselves and leaders United.
