Reading’s return to the Premier League hasn’t gone according to plan as the Royals are languishing in the relegation zone and more damagingly are yet to record a victory this season. But the Mirror reports that their Russian owner Anton Zingarevich has identified the quick-fix solution to their woes- Andrey Arshavin. Most fans might be forgiven for assuming that the Russian star wasn’t a part of Arsenal’s setup anymore but the diminutive attacker has appeared in the Capital One Cup and has also made a few Premier League substitute appearances in recent weeks.

But his Arsenal future is still in doubt, especially as his contract expires at the end of the season and Arsene Wenger is looking to clearout the deadweight from his squad. Lukas Podolski has the left-wing spot tied down and although the summer signing has spoken about his desire to play down the middle the manager isn’t likely to move him away from the wide berth anytime soon.

The presence of Gervinho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain gives Wenger plenty of options on the wing, thus giving him some leeway with regards to Arshavin and Theo Walcott’s future too.

As for Reading, they have been rumoured to be interested in the 31 year old from the summer but manager Brian McDermott has insisted that he has no plans of a large-scale squad overhaul, a drastically different view compared to the owner who reportedly wants 10 new players in January.
