Robin van Persie was on target when Manchester United dominated the Dutchman’s former club Arsenal on Saturday. Following a scintillating performance from the 29 year-old, his United teammate Patrice Evra has compared their summer acquisition to United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, reported the Daily Mail.

Van Persie scored the opener in United’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal pouncing on to Thomas Vermaelen’s poor touch to slot the ball past Vito Mannone in the 3rd minute. The striker did not celebrate the goal, instead raising his palms to the crowd in an apologetic gesture, having spent 8 years with the Gunners before joining United this summer for £24 million. However, the player’s impact at United has been evident as the Dutchman has already scored 10 goals in just his first season at Old Trafford.

Evra said after Saturday’s game against the Gunners, “Everyone knows what a great player he was at Arsenal, but it is never easy to play against your old team-mates. People can now see that Robin is strong mentally. He seems like he has played for us for many years and he reminds me of Ruud van Nistelrooy. I hope he can keep going because he can be one of the best, just like Ruud.”

Evra believes that United’s newest acquisition is much like his Dutch predecessor in his playing style and knack for scoring goals. Arsenal fans are furious at their club for allowing their prized star to leave from the Emirates. Van Persie has shown great promise at United and the Dutchman could lay his hands on the trophies he deserves if he continues to dazzle for the Red Devils this season.
