Tottenham Hotspur have started making enquiries into the availability of Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez. Liverpool had earlier shown an interest in the Chilean star but Spurs have jumped the queue to sign him amid rumours that Barca are considering a sale.
The 23-year old had a fairly decent first season at the Nou Camp but has failed to reproduce his best for the Catalans this season, scoring just once in 11 appearances this season. The player had himself acknowledged a drop in form this season and reports claim that Barcelona are willing to cash in on their underperforming forward.
The Spanish giants had spent a hefty £30 million on signing Sanchez from Udinese last year but given his current performances, the club are unlikely to make a profit on the transfer. Tottenham are planning to bring in the Chilean to White Hart Lane as a long-term option as summer signing Clint Dempsey turns 30 at the end of the season, revealed the Daily Star.
With Barcelona considering making an attempt to buy Brazilian star Neymar next summer, the La Liga side hope to amass the finances from Sanchez’s sale to make the purchase possible next summer. With Liverpool in dire need of strikers this season, the Reds will certainly give stiff competition to Spurs for the forward’s signature in the coming transfer window.
The challenge though for both teams will remain raising the finances necessary to fund the move.
