Arsenal might be enjoying a bright start to the Premier League season, but the Mirror feels that Arsene Wenger is still perturbed by the missing link in the centre forward position and they have prescribed a crazy cure for the veteran manager- Radamel Falcao. Atletico Madrid’s goal-machine is the hottest property in Europe at the moment, with his devastating hat-trick against Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup increasing his profile in the island.
Chelsea have a strong interest in the Columbian striker despite his £50m release clause, but the thought of the Gunners getting involved in a bidding war of this scale is almost comical. Wenger prides himself on the sensible economics that run the club, with a strict wage and recruitment policy helping them remain financial stable in an insolvent world.
But the tabloid feels that with the Gunners posting a £36m profit for the previous financial year, Wenger might finally be allowed to indulge in the transfer market. Chairman Peter Hill-Wood’s comments seem to have fuelled the speculation as he recently said this: “If Arsene wants to use that money during the winter window then, Âabsolutely, he will be able to do it. We rely on him to come up with the right people and there will be funds available to him.â€
The finances aside, Wenger has brought in plenty of attacking talent over the summer to alleviate the loss of Robin van Persie. they might be light in the centre-forward area if Olivier Giroud picks up an injury, but Gervinho showcasing his versatility by producing impressive performances down the middle, the manager is likely to focus on other areas to strengthen.
