Benfica’s star striker Oscar Cardozo has reportedly put his long list of suitors on alert after his contract negotiations with the club hit a roadblock, according to TalkSport. Chelsea and Everton have tracked the Paraguayan hitman for a while now and they could see light at the end of the tunnel soon if Benfica fail to tie him down to a new contract by meeting his wage demands.

Cardozo, whose current deal expires in 2014, has been Benfica’s top marksman since arriving in Portugal back in 2007, scoring 20 or more goals in all but one of the five seasons since. He has begun in typical fashion this season too, notching up four goals to help Benifca to the top of the league standings.

Benfica are unlikely to receive huge offers for the striker though as he is already 29 years old. Chelsea might be desperate for a striker though as Roman Abramovich has been scouting the world to ease the burden on Fernando Torres, with Atletico Madrid’s Radamel Falcao is seen as the front-runner at the moment.

David Moyes’ high-flying Everton are behind Chelsea in the Premier League standing owing to a fine start to the campaign fuelled by their new-look attack. The Toffees have brought in Nikica Jelvaic, Kevina Mirallas and Steven Naismith this calendar year, so it is highly unlikely that they will move for another striker soon.
