Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been handed a massive boost ahead of Gunners’ crunch game against fellow Londoners Chelsea in the form of skipper Thomas Vermaelen returning from injury. The 26-year old Belgian has been a key player for the Gunners at the back and his return to fitness will surely provide an impetus to an already upbeat outfit.

Wenger will have the problem of plenty, having to choose who to leave out amongst his three first choice center-backs with Per Mertesacker having played every League game thus far this season, while Frenchman Laurent Koscielny played and scored against Man City last week.

Speaking about other players, the long serving veteran manager was quoted by Arsenal’s website as saying, “We have Sagna who is back in full training, we have Wilshere and Frimpong back in full training, but of course they will not be available for Saturday. We have still Szczesny injured, Fabianski injured, but the others should be alright. Tomas Rosicky is two weeks away, he is not far away.”

With no fresh injury concerns, Arsenal will host league leaders Chelsea full of confidence, having seen their B-team thump Coventry 6-1 at home in midweek. Having already played Liverpool and Man City this season, the Gunners are very much in big game mode already. Chelsea were also impressive in their 6-0 triumph against Wolves in the League Cup, but this match will be their first real test, having not really been tested domestically thus far.
