It seems Chelsea's search for a new right back has finally ended with their primary target, Marseille's Cesar Azpilicueta, set to join the London club next week, according to reports in the Metro.

The 22 year old defender is on the verge of completing a £7.9 million switch to the Bridge, and is expected to play his final game for Marseille against Sochaux in Ligue One on Sunday.

Chelsea had been in search of a new right back after they released Jose Bosingwa in the summer, and were left with only Branislav Ivanovic and Paulo Ferreira as cover.

Azpilicueta was a part of Spain's Olympic squad, and is set to join compatriots Juan Mata and Oriol Romeu at Chelsea.

Chelsea have already made a number of signings this season, with brothers Eden and Thorgan Hazard, Brazilian playmaker Oscar and German international Marko Marin, and Azpilicueta will certainly not be the final signing in the transfer market for Chelsea manager Roberto di Matteo who is still looking for both another winger and a striker.

Azpilicueta, who is a former Spain Under-21 international, is a product of Osasuna's youth system, and made his La Liga debut aged 17 before moving to the Stade Velodrome in 2010, and has been a first team regular for the Marseille since.

Chances are the youngster will earn his stripes at Stamford Bridge, playing second fiddle to Ivanovic this season, but given Chelsea's participation in seven competitions (now six), will get plenty of first team action never the less.
