Manchester United are planning to make a £20 million bid to finally land Arsenal skipper Robin van Persie, revealed the Daily Star. Sir Alex is frustrated after losing Brazilian youngster Lucas Moura to French giants PSG and has made the transfer of the Dutchman his top priority.

Van Persie, who won the Premier League Golden Boot with a haul of 30 goals, has dismissed a new deal with the Gunners citing the lack of ambition at the club. Wenger is still hoping that the Dutch international reverses his decision to stay back at the Emirates, but that appears to be a remote possibility. However, the French boss is equally against selling him to one of his biggest rivals in England.

Wenger has shocked critics by splurging over £40 million on transfers this summer and hopes that the addition of new stars will convince Van Persie to pen a new deal with the club. However, with Ferguson bent on seeing the star striker at Old Trafford, Wenger could be forced to do business with his bitter rival and the latest offer of £20 million could be United's best attempt at signing the wantaway star.

The 29 year-old has just one year left on his current contract and if Arsenal decide to hang on to him this summer, they could lose him for nothing next year. Wenger is known to be wise with finances and would have no option but to put aside his personal feud with Sir Alex to maximize gains for the North London club.
