Roberto Mancini has once again lamented the lack of spending at Manchester City this summer as the Premier League winning manager gave up on his number one target, Robin van Persie. City were first on the scene when the Arsenal striker became available but with the money-men not backing the manager, cross-town rivals Manchester United have emerged as the only possible destination for the Dutchman.
Speaking to the gathered press ahead of this weekend’s Community Shield clash against Chelsea, Mancini said: “Van Persie is not our player. He is an Arsenal or United player.â€
The manager then turned his focus to his favourite whipping doll, Director of Football Brian Marwood. City are trying to balance their books before UEFA’s Financial Fair Play ruling takes effect and Marwood has only followed club orders by intending to reduce the wage bill before making further purchases.
But Mancini doesn’t see things the same way though as he added: “No I'm not happy. I don't want to say anything at the moment. You need to ask Brian Marwood. I am not the sporting director. I can't say anything about players. For me we have a good team. But we need to continue to improve.â€- 11/08/2012 11:07 - Chelsea close in on Moses as Wigan agree to £9m fee
