Dimitar Berbatov's hellish time in Manchester could end soon according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport in Italy, with Russian side Zenit St.Petersburg instilled as the current favourites for the Bulgarian. Manchester United's record signing has been eager to ditch Old Trafford for regular first-team football after spending most of last season rotting on the bench. United activated a clause in his contract to automatically extend his contract by one more year and his current asking price stands at £5m.
Zenit aren't the only ones interested in the 31 year old, who has admirers aplenty in the Serie A, namely AC Milan and Juventus. The player's agent has stated previously that Berbatov is drawn to the Serie A and with both Italian giants in need of a striker, Berbatov represents a cheap option.
Man United would also be a striker short if the former Tottenham man were to depart as Sir Alex Ferguson would be left with only Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez. But the manager has lost faith in his record signing and with Shinji Kagawa arriving on the scene, Sir Alex is likely to favour a single striker on the big occasions.
