Liverpool are back in the running for Barcelona starlet Cristian Tello, as rumours abound linking the young winger with a move away from the Camp Nou. The Merseyside club had previously expressed their interest in the youngster under legendary manager Kenny Dalglish, and now Brendan Rodgers is following suit and looking to snap up the impressive Spaniard.
The Welsh manager has been hired to instill an attacking style of play with the Reds, a task which he accomplished with flying colours at his previous club, Swansea. And he believes that Tello would fit perfectly into his system having watched him play in a possession centric attack-minded Barcelona team.
Tello was part of the Barcelona youth system in his early years, but moved to Catalan neighbours Espanyol after his contract with the Blaugrana expired. However, he was signed back by Pep Guardiola in 2010, and broke into the Barcelona first team last season, making a total of 22 appearances for the former manager.
Tello is undoubtedly a rising star who could well be open to moving to Anfield as he fears that the new Barcelona head coach Tito Vilanova doesn't value him too highly and would not offer him sufficient playing opportunities. The Catalan club are thought to be open to the idea of letting their starlet leave for a good price, according to reports in the Mirror.
The 20 year old really had a breakthrough season at the club this year having been given more than a handful of chances in the Barcelona first team by Pep Guardiola, but the return of Ibrahim Afellay to full fitness means that Tello will fall further in the pecking order at the club.
Although Tello still has a lot to learn, he undoubtedly has truckloads of potential and we believe that the Reds would be well served in signing him. It will be interesting to see though if Barca insist on a buyback clause in the player's contract should they agree to a sale.
