Ashley Cole rubbishes reports of high wage demands

Chelsea star Ashley Cole has blasted the media for spreading baseless reports (as usual) about him refusing a new contract at Stamford Bridge. The English media had reported earlier this week that the England international was demanding £200,000 per week in wages which Chelsea were unwilling to pay, leaving contract negotiations hanging in the balance.

However, the left-back has publically declared via twitter (the only true medium for sharing genuine football news) that the information is false. He tweeted, "Contract talks have not stalled just started, and 200k are you for real, I'd never ask for that. Like I said before don't listen or always believe what media say they aint got a clue."

The speculation arose with the 31-year old entering the final year of his Chelsea contract. And news of interest from super-rich French club Paris Saint-Germain (who were on a spending spree) and Premier League rivals Manchester United only made matters worse.

But the Blues and their fans can breathe a sigh of relief after this declaration from Cole. The London club is already in dire need of a wingback to fill in the vacant right-back position left by the departure of Jose Bosingwa, and they could ill-afford to see their experienced campaigner Ashley Cole leave anytime soon.
