Liverpool's Daniel Agger continues to draw interest from Spain as Barcelona have once again emerged as interested suitors. The Danish centre-back has been tracked by both Barca and Real Madrid over the past six months despite being extremely happy on Merseyside. The latest report comes from Tuttosport who claim that Barca's faltering bid to land Athletic Bilbao could see them turn their focus on Agger once again.
The Catalans have been in the market for a dynamic central defender, with Arsenal's Thomas Vermaelen also being linked with a move to the Nou Camp. Martinez has been their number one choice but Bilbao's hefty price tag has already scared away Bayern Munich and Barca are set to follow. The report also states that Agger's former team-mate Javier Mascherano could also play a part in persuading him to leave his club of six years.
Brendan Rodgers has had a tough time this summer rejecting rumours of player departures, especially in defence where both his centre-backs have been linked with an exit. Martin Skrtel also has only two years left to run in his contract and with a new offer not on the table, he has opened up to the possibility of leaving Anfield. The manager might have something to say about it though as he most certainly wouldn't want to begin his Liverpool tenure by sanctioning the transfer of their two best defenders.- 30/07/2012 16:59 - Man City lodge shock bid for Liverpool's Daniel Agger
