Scouts from Manchester United and Arsenal were believed to have been in attendance when Celtic took on Norwich City in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday according to reports in the Daily Mail. The newspaper reports that the object of their attention was 21-year old Kenyan enforcer Victor Wanyama, who is yearning for a move to the big time.

The Glasgow Celtic player, who was earlier in the summer linked with a move to Manchester City as a possible replacement for Nigel de Jong, has been attracting rave reviews for his strength and skill, but is still considered by many to be just a rookie.

Celtic signed the youngster just last season from Belgium side Beerschot AC, for a fee rumoured to be less than a million pounds. Wanyama spent three years with the Belgian club and despite disciplinary issues on the field was held in high regard.

His time at Celtic has been interesting, with the player himself quite disappointed at having been played out of position far too often in central defence.

Celtic are reportedly quite open to a sale, but are keen on making a quick buck on the Kenyan, and have reportedly placed a £7 million price tag on his head.

While it makes sense for United and Arsenal to scout the player, it is quite unlikely that either side will gamble on a 21-year old who is yet to be tested at a higher level. Additionally, both Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger have ruled out strengthening their midfield this summer, and it is quite unlikely that seeing Wanyama in action will change their mind.

Rumour has it that Queens Park Rangers and Stoke City are also interested in the youngster, and a bid from either side sounds a more realistic next step in Wanyama's career.
