Theo Walcott has cleared the air concerning his Arsenal future as the winger revealed to Sky Sports that talks with Arsenal over a new contract were ongoing. The 23 year old is currently in the same situation as Robin van Persie as even he is left with only a year to run in his contract. But, while Van Persie has rejected a new deal in favour of a move away, Walcott is keen to continue at the Emirates. Although Arsene Wenger's pursuit of Santi Cazorla has only cast further doubt over Walcott's future as the competition for places heats up at Arsenal.
On the subject of the contract negotiations Walcott said: "It was always going to be (a case of) hold back until the end of the Euros. We continue to talk and we'll just see where it goes. Like I say, my agent and the club will continue to talk and when there's something to know I'll get involved."
Chelsea and Liverpool were rumoured to be monitoring his situation at Arsenal as the prospective suitors circled around the minute news of a contract dispute emerged. But the Englishman has insisted that he hasn't paid attention to the gossip columns and is in fact more interested in taking Arsenal to the next level this coming season.
While Arsenal fans will no doubt be delighted with Walcott's announcement, their concern is unlikely to be alleviated till the time the youngster does ink a new deal.
