Daniele de Rossi could be on his way to the Premier League before the end of the transfer window, with Manchester City reportedly back in the market for the midfielder.

De Rossi was one of the Citizens' biggest transfer targets last term, both during the summer and in January, but after City boss Roberto Mancini failed to strike a deal with Roma for the 28-year old, De Rossi signed a new five-year deal with the Serie A club in February.

Mancini's interest in the midfielder however hasn't waned one bit, and after the player's impressive performances in the European Championships this summer, the City manager is ready to submit a formal bid for De Rossi according to reports in the Metro.

The versatile player could be used in his preferred central midfield role or as backup to the Citizens' first-choice central defensive partnership of Vincent Kompany and Joleon Lescott, with the reigning Premier League champions set to become a little light for cover at the back if Kolo Toure makes his widely-expected move away from the Etihad Stadium this summer.

According to Il Messaggero, the Citizens are reportedly ready to fork out a massive £23.5 million for De Rossi, with the one-club man set to replace tough-tackling midfielder Nigel de Jong, the latter expected to leave the club for either of the Milan clubs.
