Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is continuing his summer spending spree, and has reportedly tabled a £9 million bid for Corinthians midfielder Paulinho according to reports in The Times.

The 23-year old has played at a number of Brazilian clubs in his short career thus far, and after signing for Corinthians in 2010 from Bragantino, played a major part in the club's Brasileirao title success last year. He was also part of the Corinthians side that won their maiden Copa Libertadores trophy earlier this month, which has led to intense speculation regarding a prospective move for Paulinho to one of Europe's biggest destinations.

However, despite having the likes of Inter Milan and Arsenal monitor his progress, Paulinho has quashed rumours of an impending exit, insisting that he will see out his contract which still has three years remaining on it.

Corinthians president Nario Gobbi similarly sounded certain that the 23-year old would stay at the club, saying: "Paulinho and Ralf [another player rumoured with an exit] will stay at Corinthians. Corinthians is a meritocracy. We have done this since December 2007.

"Those players who raise their levels, they will get their salary raised to a new level. I want everyone to be happy and satisfied at Corinthians, playing with the same willingness they showed in the Libertadores."

Arsenal however are ready to test the Brazilian side's resolve for the attacking midfielder, and have reportedly submitted a £9 million offer to Corinthians for Paulinho.
