Cavani wants £150,000 a week to join Chelsea

The Daily Express and the Daily Star both have Edinson Cavani plastered on the front page of their websites, claiming that the Uruguayan striker could well be on his way to Chelsea this summer.

Having failed in their bid to sign Hulk from FC Porto, it appears that Chelsea have turned their attention towards Cavani as a relevant alternative to Fernando Torres to lead the frontline. After the departure of Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou this summer, an out and out striker is one area in the Chelsea squad that is still a gaping void, especially considering the Spaniard's indifferent form last season.

With Chelsea failing to match Porto's valuation for Hulk, the two aforementioned British dailies suggest that the Blues have switched their attention firmly to the £35 million rated Uruguayan. Cavani has reportedly asked for wages in the range of £150,000 a week to put him on par with the likes of Frank Lampard and John Terry. Chelsea will probably not have an issue meeting his wage demands, and given the fact that he is 26-year's old, he will probably at best have one more contract at the club in the future.

Napoli meanwhile are already planning for life after Cavani, with Calcio Mercato reporting that the club have lodged an 8 million bid for Sporting Lisbon's Dutch striker Ricky Van Wolfswinkel, a former Liverpool and Manchester United target.
