New Swansea manager Michael Laudrup has launched a £1.7 million bid for Rayo Vallecano midfielder Michu, but needs to snap up the 26-year old fast, with the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool lurking in the background. The offer is believed to have been accepted and Michu has been given the go ahead to discuss personal terms.

Michu, or Miguel Pérez Cuesta, who signed for Rayo Vallecano from Celta only last summer, scored an amazing 17 times from midfield for the La Liga club, helping them avoid relegation and finish in 15th place in the Spanish first division.

However, despite Rayo manager Paco Jémez's interest in holding onto the Spaniard, the club's poor financial conditions have led to Michu becoming an expected exit from the Madrid-based club.

Interest from Premier League clubs for the midfielder has been huge, as Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has sent his brother Martin to scout Michu, while Liverpool too have been keeping tabs on the player's situation at Rayo. Sevilla are also believed to be mulling over an offer according to reports in the Rayo Herald, and chances are they will rival Swansea with a bid for the midfielder soon.

However, the earliest to act have been Swansea, who have reportedly submitted a £1.7 million bid for the talented 26-year old.

Laudrup is said to rate Michu very highly, and considers the attacking midfielder to be a perfect replacement for Gylfi Sigurdsson, who signed for Tottenham Hotspur over the summer after impressing for the Swans on loan last term.
