Steven Pienaar is set to return to Goodison Park yet again this week, with the South African expected to seal a £2.5 million move back to Everton, 18 months after leaving the club for Tottenham Hotspur.

The 30-year old was made a priority signing by Everton manager David Moyes this summer after impressing for the Toffees during his loan spell in the second half of last season, with Spurs also keen on getting rid of the player who was never really able to hit top gear at White Hart Lane.

Pienaar was signed at the North London club by former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp for a fee of around £3 million in January 2011, but with injuries plaguing him and his form deserting him, found himself on the sidelines at the club for long periods of time.

A return to Goodison Park on loan this January seemed to get the best out of the winger again, following which Everton made contact with Tottenham over the return of their talismanic star.

However, while the cash-strapped Toffees feared that Pienaar's valuation in the eyes of Daniel Levy would be too high a target for them to reach, the £2.5 million price suggested has allowed them to breathe a sigh of relief.

The details should be finalised by the end of the week, and Toffees' defender Sylvain Distin declared the side was keen on working with the South African international again.

"When Steven came back he changed the way we played," Distin said. "We have everything crossed he will be back."
