West Ham United are looking to bring in Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga for 7 million Euros in order to strengthen their strike-force for the new Premier League season, reports ESPN.

The Hammers have been linked with a series of strikers in the summer, including a potential loan move for Liverpool's 35 million pound man Andy Carroll, and are expected to sign Maiga in the next few days after the Malian forward passes a medical at the club.

Maiga has been subject to interest from the Premier League on previous occassions too, with Newcastle United trying to sign the striker in December. However, the deal fell through due to the player's failure to pass a medical due to a knee problem, and the Magpies signed Papiss Demba Cisse instead.

A Hammers source told ESPN: "The club have offered €7 million, and it looks like being accepted.'

Maiga has scored 24 times in 59 appearances for his present club Sochaux after joining them from Le Mans in 2010, and was on the radar of many clubs, including Stoke and Reading, after a string of impressive performances for the French side.

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is keen to add a striker and a central defender to the squad, and Maiga will be a very good acquisition for the newly promoted squad. Allardyce had also previously bid for Norwich's Grant Holt, but the English striker has since signed a new long term contract with the Canaries, however, Big Sam is believed to be interested in Evian's Yannick Sagbo. A loan deal for youngster Luc Castaignos may also be on the cards, but Italian side Inter Milan are more keen on selling the player permanently, with Everton and Fulham showing interest.
