In a bid to resurrect their poor image and their flailing ambitions, Blackburn Rovers have appointed Shebby Singh as their director of football.

Former Malaysian International Singh, while not a known figure in England, is a household name in Asia, where he has for many years worked as a football pundit under the ESPN-Star Sports banner. The 43-year old will be utilised by Blackburn as an intermediary between the club's owners and the manager, and is expected to be handed a major role in rebuilding the club's stuttering image and position in the English football heirarchy.

A self-professed Tottenham fan, Singh is known for his forthright views, and will work closely with club manager Steve Kean as they try to keep hold of their big names and jump right back up to the Premier League.

One is unsure however how Rovers' fans will take to the appointment of a man who is by-and-large a nondescript in the United Kingdom, with the possibility of another backlash against Indian poultry conglomerate Venky's for Singh's selection.

Singh offered his full backing to criticised manager Steve Kean during an interview with BBC Radio Lancashire yesterday, suggesting that the recently-relegated club will stick with their 44-year old boss.
