Newly-promoted Premier League side West Ham United have confirmed the transfer of midfielder Mohamed Diame on a three-year deal from Wigan Athletic. This news is sure to bring joy to the Hammers' fans even as leading Premier League clubs attempt to raid the Upton Park for keys players who orchestrated West Ham's return to the top flight.

In an official announcement on the club website, the Senegalse player said, "I'm very happy and very excited to have joined the club and I'm looking forward to the start of the season. I know the fans here get behind the team all the time and I'm looking forward to showing everybody what I can do on the pitch."

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce was delighted at the deal and said, "His potential is really good and he's ready to go and compete in the first team straight away as he's had three years in the Premier League already. He's 25 and can only get better and I hope he can go on to prove that to me and all of the West Ham United fans. He will be a very exciting addition to the squad."

Diame started his career at French club Lens before joining the now defunct Spanish side Linares in 2007. After a year at Rayo Vallecano, the midfielder moved to the Premier League in 2009, joining Wigan Athletic on a three-year deal. He has made more than 100 appearances for the Latics, enjoying regular first team action under Roberto Martinez for the first couple of seasons, before becoming more of an impact player last season with the manager opting to pair up James McArthur and James McCarthy in the center of midfield in his new 3-4-3 formation.

With the Premier League scene changing considerably in the one year that they spent in the Championship, West Ham will have a lot to do if they wish continue their run with the big boys. This move gives Diame a great opportunity to prove his mettle under Allardyce and promote his budding career in England. Along with this big signing, if Allardyce manages to hold on to his best players, West Ham will certainly prove to be tough opponents for Premier League's top sides next season.
