Arsenal are facing competition to sign transfer target Aleksandar Dragovic, with Inter Milan considering making a formal bid for the Austrian centre-half. The Nerazzurri have been scouting possible replacements for Brazilian defender Lucio after the 34-year old confirmed his exit from the Serie A club this summer, and have pencilled in 21-year old Dragovic as an ideal candidate to step into his shoes.
Dragovic, who signed for Basel only last summer from home town club Austrian Wien and has a deal running till 2015, caught the eye of numerous scouts across Europe as the Swiss side made the knockout rounds of the Champions League at the expense of Manchester United.
The Red Devils' domestic rivals Arsenal are another club vying for his signature, seeing the Austrian international as a possible mainstay in their backline in the years to come.
Reports suggest that a bid in the region of £8 million could be enough to tempt Basel into selling, a figure that isn't likely to bother either Inter or Arsenal. Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are other clubs also keeping tabs of the defender’s situation at his club.
The key decision for the youngster though remains whether he should continue for another couple of years at a club where he is first choice, or move to a bigger team where he is likely to be a squad player for a few years at the very least.
