Tottenham Hotspur are involved in a struggle to retain their star players after Chelsea's emphatic Champions League triumph pushed Tottenham into the Europa League despite a fourth place finish. As a result, some players are on the lookout for greener pastures. To ensure that money doesn't necessarily motivate certain individuals to move, Tottenham have drawn up a new deal for their talismanic left-winger Gareth Bale, that will see his wages increase to £70,000-a-week making him one of the highest paid players at White Hart Lane. The winger already has a contract with the club upto 2015, but Spurs are willing to go the distance to quell the transfer speculations.

Gareth Bale was instrumental in Tottenham's early season surge that saw them placed at third spot in the Premier League for a major part of the season. A sudden dip in form and a slew of bad results later, Tottenham managed to finish fourth behind Arsenal and the Manchester clubs. The Welsh international netted 13 times in 42 appearances for the North London side, and also provided an equal number of assists, making it more than a fruitful season for the youngster.

With a host of clubs vying to sign the player, Harry Redknapp will have to dig in deep to convince Bale to stay with Spurs for another season. However, the contract on offer can easily be overshadowed by the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona, who have been scouting the Welshman. A Spurs insider has reported, "The chairman has moved quickly to secure Gareth's future with the club. There has been a lot of talk about Barcelona and Real Madrid but Gareth wants to stay and we don't want to sell. So we are really confident the deal will be sealed very soon to kill off all the speculation."

With reports also hinting at Emmanuel Adebayor's permanent transfer to White Hart Lane, this deal will herald great news for Tottenham fans who will be glad to see the Bale-Adebayor magic recreated next season. Despite the turn of events that saw Champions League football being snatched from right under their nose, retaining their key players will be great for Tottenham as they can return with renewed vigour next season and take a shot at cementing their place amongst the big boys of the Premier League.
