The Chevrolet Warriors, one of the most successful sides in this format over the past few seasons, finally got their MiWay T20 Challenge campaign under way on Wednesday evening when they beat the New Age Impi by 36 runs at Sahara Park Willlowmoore.

The Warriors did not do quite enough to earn a bonus point but, having lost their first three home games on the trot, they will have been relieved to get some points on the board. Already they have been strengthened by the return of Colin Ingram and Rusty Theron from T20 duty with the Proteas in New Zealand and will be regaining the services of Johan Botha and Wayne Parnell as well at the end of the ODI series on Saturday.

Ingram played an important role in the Warriors' victory, making an unbeaten 42 off 24 balls (3 fours and 2 sixes). He and Craig Thyssen (49 not out, also off 24 balls, 4 fours and 3 sixes) rounded off their side's total of 182/2 after Ashwell Prince (63 off 43 balls, 5 fours and 2 sixes) had laid the foundation.

The Impi never looked like chasing down the victory target but their final total of 146/8 was just enough to deny the Warriors a bonus point.

There was disappointment for the two top teams on the log, the Chevrolet Knights and the Nashua Titans, when their match at Chevrolet Park was washed out without a ball being bowled. They take two points each and thus remain in the top two positions.
