Blackburn's unsettled defender Chris Samba has joined Russian moneybags Anzhi Makhachala. Although the club did not disclose the transfer fee involved, the Daily Mail suggests that the figure is around the £11 million mark.

Samba had made his intentions to leave the club clear in January, when he had lodged a transfer request amidst interest from the likes of QPR and Tottenham. Although Blackburn managed to prevent a move to any of the other English clubs, they finally had to sanction a move to Anzhi, with the player having not played for the club since 2nd of January despite being fit.

Speaking about the move, Samba stated to Sky Sports News, “It is a little club that wants to become a very big one in Russia with a very powerful owner who wants to transform the club and bring the club to greatness. They prove it by bringing in Eto'o and a good manager like Guus Hiddink and a lot of players are going to come and add to the project."

The move will also see the 27-year old increase his wages significantly, with the Daily Mail touting the amount to be a whopping £120,000-a-week. The move may have been good for Blackburn if the club had intentions of reinvesting the entire transfer windfall back into the squad although the aforementioned daily suggests that the majority of the money will now be used to reduce the club’s debts.

The Congolese’s departure will certainly hamper Blackburn’s survival hopes, although they have coped fairly well in his absence for the past two months, losing only 3 of the 6 matches they have played during that period. His exit will also further unsettle the fans, who have already been left bewildered by some of the decisions made by owners Venky’s and are angry with their persistence in keeping manager Steve Kean at the club.
