The Chevrolet Knights drew level with the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras at the top of the MiWay T20 Challenge when they beat the Nashua Titans by 5 wickets with 4 balls to spare at SuperSport Park on Sunday. Both the Knights and the Cobras have 7 points following the tied match between the two sides at the De Beers Diamond Oval on Friday evening.
In Sunday's other match the New Age Impi came desperately close to getting a win under their belts when they went down by a nail-biting 3 runs to the Sunfoil Dolphins at the Maritzburg Oval. It was the Dolphins' first match of the campaign.
Visiting captain Morne van Wyk set up the Knights' victory with his innings of 62 off 50 balls (6 fours and 3 sixes) that included a partnership of 97 for the fourth wicket with Reeza Hendricks (55 off 36 balls, 4 fours and 2 sixes) to be named MiWay Master Blaster.
The bowling award went to Alfonso Thomas who nearly got the Titans back into the match when he dismissed both Hendricks and Van Wyk in the space of two overs to finish with the outstanding return of 3/17.
The Titans' total of 165/7 had been made possible by an outstanding innings of 70 from Farhaan Behardien (44 balls, 5 fours and 4 sixes). He was largely responsible for the 43 runs that the Titans scored in their last three overs, hitting 3 sixes in the 19th over from Dillon du Preez and another 2 fours in the final over from Ryan McLaren.
The Dolphins managed a total of 151/6 which proved to be just beyond the resources of the Impi who replied with 148/7.
They will nevertheless take great confidence from the debut performance of Khaya Zondo (54 off 47 balls, 5 fours) and the bowling of Pumelela Matshikwe (3/18). Zondo was named MiWay Master Blaster batsman while the bowling award went to the Dolphins' Robbie Frylinck who closed out the match by taking 4/28 in 4 overs including the critical wicket of Paul Collingwood.
