Italian international Daniele de Rossi, who has all year been linked with a big money move to Premier League title contenders Manchester City has ended all speculation about his future by signing a 5-year contract extension with his boyhood club As Roma.

The 28-year old midfielder's contract was scheduled to expire this summer, and his inability to agree new terms with his club had put a massive cloud over his future Roma, also alerting the big wigs around Europe about his availability.

However, despite the constant speculation, De Rossi had always maintained that he had no intention to ever play for another club, and his heart lay with Roma. Interestingly, the new contract was inked on the same day that Roma registered a morale boosting 4-0 win over Inter Milan.

Announcing the new deal for De Rossi was club general director Franco Baldini, "We have reached an agreement with De Rossi for five years. We are delighted to announce this agreement. It has been a difficult renewal because he could have chosen other destinations. This has represented an added hurdle but he chose us and that is a good sign.''

De Rossi has played almost 400 games for Roma, and is already a legendary figure at the club. He has also made 70 national appearances in his midfield role and is known for being a quality player, quite capable of mixing it up in the middle of the field, while also having an eye for a pass.
