Roman Pavlyuchenko has ended his North London nightmare after Tottenham Hotspur accepted a £7.5million bid from Lokomotiv Moscow in a frantic deadline day deal. The Russian striker had been on the fringes of Harry Redknapp's side ever since Emmanuel Adebayor arrived from Man City in the summer. He had been linked with a move back to Russia for a while, but Spurs were waiting for a bid that matched their valuation. Pavluchenko will now undergo a medical at Lokomotiv on Thursday as he also finalizes the personal terms of his new contract.
Tottenham, who replaced the Russian with Louis Saha, who made a surprise move to White Hart Lane in what was a very busy deadline day for Harry Redknapp, released this statement on their website "We have reached agreement for the transfer of Roman Pavlyuchenko to Lokomotiv Moscow".
Spurs signed the striker from Spartak Moscow for £14m in 2008 after an impressive showing at the Euro's. He made a total of 113 appearances for Spurs in the four year period, netting 42 goals in the process. But he has been more of a Cup specialist for Tottenham and has reached double figures in the Premier League only once in four seasons, in 2010-11 when he scored 10 goals.
Redknapp has always been a fan of the tall-short striker combination, but with Spurs adopting a very European culture of playing with only one striker up front, the likes of Jermain Defoe & Pavluchenko have fallen behind Adebayor in the pecking order. And at the age of 30 Pavluchenko didn't have too many years at the top ahead of him and Spurs unsurprisingly wanted to get at least half of their £14 million back.
