Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has ended his 3½ year spell with Everton, opting for the greener pastures of White Hart Lane to strutt his stuff in the near future. 33-year old Saha had only 6 months left on his existing contract at Goodison Park, and it appears that the Blues were keen to get the big money striker off their wage bill and may have even allowed him to move to Tottenham for free.
Saha has cut a rather frustrated figure at Everton this campaign and has publicly voiced his opinion about not making as many starts as he thinks he should with the Blues opting to play a 4-4-1-1 system, often even thrusting an out of form Tim Cahill up front on his own.
Saha has reportedly been offered a 6 month contract at Tottenham, with the club keeping an option of increasing it to 18 months depending on performance. The deal which has come rather out of the blue is likely to see former Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar likely to return to Goodison Park for the remainder of this campaign. Pienaar has been a fringe player at Spurs since his £2 million move from Everton, and at 29 will surely relish the prospect of playing regular football again week-in week-out.
There are many other factors relevant to Saha's move, least of all is the striker situation at White Hart Lane. Roman Pavluchenko and Jermain Defoe are two very unhappy players on the bench at Spurs, and both were tipped with a move away from Tottenham on deadline day. It appears that Defoe's proposed move to Liverpool fell apart, while Pavlyuchenko is widely expected to return to Russia with Lokomotiv Moscow.
