The Indian ‘quartet’ maintained its winning rhythm on Day 6 of the 2012 Australian Open as Bopanna- Bhupathi, Paes-Vesnina and Mirza-Vesnina progressed to the next round in their respective events.
In the final ‘day’ match on the Rod Laver Arena, the newly formed fourth seeded pairing of Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna was on song throughout and recorded a routine 6-2 6-2 win over the unseeded Aussie-Philipino pairing of Carsten Ball and Treat Conrad Huey in Round 2. The Indians had a first serve percentage of 87 and converted 4 out of 9 breakpoints to make this a completely one-sided affair. However, they could face some resistance in the next match when they encounter the 13th seeded American duo of Scott Lipsky and Rajeev Ram.
Leander Paes and Sania Mirza were in no mood to stay too far behind as the Paes- Elena Vesnina combination took out Max Mirnyi and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-2 7-5 in Round 1 while the established Mirza-Vesnina duo defeated Eva Birnerova and Alberta Brianti 7-5, 7-5 in a second round match . Things will get a bit trickier for Mirza and Vesnina when they face the 12th seeds Jarmila Gajdosova and Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the next round.
