The Race of Champions, an event with a history of over 20 years of exciting races of champions across various motorsport disciplines, will see the first appearance by ŠKODA and its Fabia Super 2000s this year. The first weekend of December (3 – 4 Dec, 2011), the best of the best will meet in the Esprit Arena in Düsseldorf, Germany to show their skills on a 600-metre-long circuit, including in a special race for national teams designed to spice up the event programme. ŠKODA will use four Fabia Super 2000s, and its appearance in this unique race is another milestone in the 110-year history of its motorsport efforts.

To find the real “champion of the champions”, the event organisers have developed a unique system of “play-off” duels. This year the field of drivers will include Michael Schumacher, Sebastin Vettel, Sébastian Loeb and a number of other big names, including drivers of Škoda vehicles. While Saturday, 3 December will see a competition among national teams (each country will be represented by two drivers), Sunday is reserved for individual duels between the biggest names of contemporary motorsport – on parallel tracks, in identical cars and regardless what discipline they actually represent.

Commenting on ŠKODA's participation, Head of ŠKODA Motorsport Michal Hrabánek says: “We are honoured to be among the best of the best for the first time in the 110-year history of ŠKODA's motorsport efforts. I am sure that our appearance in the Race of Champions will attract some more fans to motorsport. We have a pleasant task now – choosing one of our drivers to compete against the best.”

The Race of Champions was founded in 1988 by Fredrik Johnsson, President of IMP (International Media Productions – rights owner) and Michele Mouton, the most successful female rally driver of all time. The race on Sunday will be covered live by SAT1.
