As the transfer day deadline approached, Arsenal made a slew of key acquisitions, giving a new lease of life to their defence and beefing up their attack at the same time. The spree, however, has led Wenger to ship out a few of his youngsters, the most recent among them being new signing Joel Campbell and versatile forward Gilles Sunu, who have both been sent to Ligue 1 side FC Lorient. While Campbell has joined the French outfit on a season long loan, Sunu has completed a permanent transfer, penning a four year contract with the club where he spent the latter half of last season on loan.
Speaking to reporters Sunu was pretty optimistic about his prospects at the club and stated, “I've just signed a four-year deal with Lorient. My main aim was to join Lorient so that I can play, If I get to play up front I hope to score 10 goals this season. If I'm on the wing, hopefully I'll score a few goals and help create others”
Joel Campbell, on the other hand , has been sent to the French side in order to prepare him for the rigours of European football. Campbell was unlikely to get many first team chances with the Gunners, and therefore a loan spell will massively aid his development and help him grow as a player. Moreover, the Costa Rican international had been refused a work permit to play in England, which further hastened his temporary departure.
A statement released by the Gunners on their official website read: "Everyone at Arsenal Football Club would like to wish both Campbell and Sunu well in Northern France, and thank Gilles for his contribution to the club."
