West Ham have given a further impetus to their bid for promotion by landing Arsenal youngster Henri Lansbury and Tottenham outcast David Bentley on loan deals for the season. While both the players are primarily right sided midfielders, Lansbury is capable of playing in the centre as well, thereby further reinforcing the already formidable Championship side and somewhat softening the blow caused by the exit of Scott Parker. Bentley on other hand is more an out and out winger and can also be parked on the left wing in case of emergencies.
While Lansbury could not make the jump to the Gunners’ first team, he could be a very useful acquisition for the Hammers, especially as far as the Championship is concerned, as he has spent time with clubs such as Watford and Norwich on loan previously. He made 23 appearances for Paul Lambert's side last season, helping them win promotion and would relish the opportunity to play week-in week-out to further his development.
Sam Allardyce's long standing emphasis on fitness and the physical side of the game should also help the youngster return to Arsenal next season a stronger, better player.
Bentley on the other hand will bring with him vast experience having started his career way back in 2002, also interestingly with the Gunners. Although he does not possess much pace, his pinpoint crosses will be an asset. He has so far made 243 appearances for five different clubs, and has also made 40 assists apart from having found the back of net 29 times.
It will be interesting to see how Big Sam plans to use the pair of them together having signed them both on season long loans.
