Neil Warnock has continued his successful transfer deadline day business by agreeing a fee with Sunderland for their defender Anton Ferdinand, this after QPR snapped up Manchester City reject Shaun Wright-Phillips earlier in the day.
Ferdinand, younger brother of Manchester United center-half Rio, started his career at the famed West Ham academy before moving to Sunderland in 2008. He has spent three seasons at the Stadium of Light since, racking up 93 appearances for the Black Cats. However, manager Steve Bruce, who has already made 10 new signings this summer and is still looking for more reinforcements, would want to cash in on Ferdinand, who is out of contract at the end of the season, rather than let him go on a free next summer.
If reports are to be believed, then QPR will pay the Black Cats around £4 million for the 26-year old, which will be significant returns on the £8 million that Sunderland spent on him three seasons ago. However, with the likes of Michael Turner and Titus Bramble currently injured for the side, Anton Ferdinand has been a regular in the Sunderland side this term and has impressed with his early-season performances.
The 26-year old is expected to discuss personal terms and have a medical with the newcomers in the coming hours.
