Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson continues to remain active in the transfer market, signing 30-year old Juventus midfielder Christian Poulson on a three-year deal worth €5.475 million. The Reds will reportedly pay the amount in two instalments with €2.725 million to be paid immediately and another €2.75 million on 1st July 2011. However, Juventus can gain another €1.2 million with performance bonuses and add-ons. Poulsen is set to wear the no 28 shirt and may even make to the starting XI for Liverpool's crucial Premier League season opener against Arsenal this weekend.

Christian Poulson started his career under Roy Hodgson when he played at FC Copenhagen. The duo obviously had an excellent working relationship, and Poulson won the league title in his debut season. The 30-year old midfielder has played for several top European clubs like FC Schalke, Sevilla, and Juventus, and is set to replace an unsettled Javier Mascheranho in the defensive-midfielder's slot. Mascheranho has been unhappy for quite some time now and expressed his desire to move from Anfield.

Poulson's arrival will now pave the way for Mascheranho's transfer, which is set to be completed within days.

Poulson had been heavily linked with Liverpool for the last few weeks after spending a couple of disappointing seasons with Juventus. With 77 international caps under his belt, the Danish midfielder will add solidity and experience to the midfield. However, the critics do not believe in the quality of the new look midfield, with serious doubts about whether Lucas Leiva and Poulson have enough quality to make their presence felt in the big games.

Roy Hodgson will continue to remain active in the transfer window, with a few more additions to be made to his squad. Hodgson is expected to add another striker and will hear offers for the proposed sale of Alberto Aquilani, who spent a large part of his debut season out injured.
