Newly promoted Blackpool have bolstered their squad by signing 4 new players before the start of the season. The ‘Tangerines' kick off their campaign against Wigan on Saturday and manager Ian Holloway has made a smart move that might just make them more competitive this season.

Manchester United defender Craig Cathcart joins on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee with an option to extend for another year if both parties agreed. But it is the midfield that will be boosted most with 3 new players Ludovic Sylvestre, Malaury Martin and Elliot Grandin signing for them.

Midfielder Ludovic Sylvestre, 26, has arrived from Czech side Mlada Boleslav on a two-year deal with the option of a further year. 22-year old French winger Elliot Grandin who also played for Ligue 1 side Marseille has joined from CSKA Sofia again on a 2-year deal.

"He wasn't happy here and moving to another club was the best option for him," Sofia coach Pavel Dochev told reporters.

After a 1 month's trial Malaury Martin joins on a free transfer from Monaco after having represented France at various youth levels. The 21-year old has signed a 1 year deal with the Premiership new boys.

Blackpool have come back to Premiership after 39 long years and they have to struggle hard for survival in the toughest league in the world. But good business in the transfer market under an intelligent manager might just see them through.
